2025 Board Meeting Minutes
July 1 at 2 PM at BGC
The meeting was called to order at 2 PM
The minutes from the June meeting were approved.
Treasurer Report – Janet reported that we had income of $355 and spent $349.85. Our current balance is $4,252.89
Membership report – Sandra reported that without those who owe dues, we have 42 members of which 23 are also members of BGC. We voted to change the dues to $5 for the rest of the year.
Report on sponsorships – we currently have 6 sponsors who have given us a total of $300.
New service project lead – Angela has not responded.
Camera – state will fund in October. Robert, Mary and BT met with Charlyn after the meeting.
Audiologist – Mary reported that during maintenance on her hearing aids, she asked the audiologist if she would be interested in speaking to our group. She would and Annette will follow up. The audiologist also said they will have a bulletin board in their new office and would welcome a sign for AARP.
Service projects:
June 1 – 15 we collected 227 pounds of food
July 20 thru Aug. 5 schools supply drive – the CaresHub had not responded with a list by the time the newsletter went out so we have a minimal list. However, members should feel free to bring in other things. Janet said she would match any money contributions. Robert said he would take our contributions to the Hub.
On Nov. 18 at the general meeting we will have our one day (one day only) toy drive.

President Robert Stone called the meeting to Order at 2 PM.

The treasurer reported that we have $3,998.37 and $56.27.

Sandra reported we have 52 members, but not all have paid their dues yet.

We have 4 sponsorships who will contribute $50 each.

Mary made a $200 donation. She received $100 for each referral to Viking and gave the money to our chapter.

BT worked with the state AARP and asked them to email our chapter information to those with national memberships who live in our zip codes. This resulted in 10 new memberships.

130 people stopped by the AARP booth at the Active Aging Expo.

Angela Jordan is our new service project lead.

Sandra reported that she is having trouble contacting our speaker for May 13. BT said she might have a replacement. Sandra asked her to wait 3 days before asking the possible replacement.

Annette reported that our chapter made about 100 flower arrangements. They will go to Montgomery Village, Sunrise, Shady Grove and Asbury.

Betty reported on the trip to France. We went from Paris to Normandy and back to Paris. We were very moved at the American Cemetery. In general, it was a great time.

Robert told us a little about his trip to New Zealand and Australia.

Our next service project will be a food drive with our partner BGC. We will collect food from June 1 to June 15 at the BGC. The food will go to the CaresHub. Mary will print off their wish list so shoppers will have some guidance.

From July 20 to Aug. 5 we will collect school supplies. Our chapter will supplement the collection by spending the approximately $200 remaining from the state grant.

We can’t do the toy drive on Nov. 11 because the center will be closed for Veterans’ Day. Our November schedule will be: Nov. 4 Board meeting, Nov. 11 Chat and Chew, Nov. 18 General meeting and toy collection.

Robert and Mary will not attend the August meetings. Annette said she would handle the August meetings.
